Remember, your instructor has already read your outline and your draft. They are familiar with your paper at this point in time. When grading the final paper, they will primarily be looking to see if you made the edits recommended by your peers and your instructor.

For this assignment, you will write an essay that assesses and critiques “fake news.” For the purposes of the paper, you are to select an example of fake news (E. G. a falsely reported story; a media hoax; a conspiracy theory; a meme spreading disinformation; bots on social media; etc.). Your task will be to identify fake news, highlight why the fake news is persuasive and/or problematic, research and present the facts of the issue, identify the effects of fake news, and offer suggestions for how people might better understand the issue.

Your paper should be 1,000-1,500 words, double spaced, and use a 12-point, Times New Roman font. Each paper should cite 2-3 scholarly sources. Draft a formal bibliography of your sources and place it at the end of your paper. Just as the authors of the text do (and as you should do in anything you write that relies on source material) provide in-text citations as well as complete bibliographic information for the work cited at the end of your paper. Use the APA style guide.

In order to provide good material, you will need to do your homework well. To fulfill this assignment you will need to examine what has been written in recent scholarly journals in communication.
