The film Knives Out is an embodiment of the interplay between power, economics, and cultural representation. This is well illustrated via the relationship between the Thrombeys, the heirs of the patriarch author who dies in the film, and Marta, a Latino who is the caretaker to the family. As cautioned by Fuller (10), failure to recognize our differences leads to the chance that certain racial groups are painted as superior to others. Further, it is driven by a lack of contact between social class/racial groups in a meaningful way. In Knives Out Marta for instance (a Latino) is at the mercy of the Thrombeys throughout the film. In several instances, Thrombeys refer to her as from a different country (they never learn which one) and they even ask her if she is in the country legally (came ‘the right way’) or via other means………..
