ASSIGNMENT #3

Below are a series of questions designed to reinforce the materials that we have discussed in class and that you have read about in the book. 

1. Compare and contrast the mean, the median, and the mode.
2. Choose two research designs that can be used in evaluation research.  Describe how these research designs can be useful in evaluation research.
3. Compare and contrast quantitative and qualitative methods.  Be sure to mention how they can be used in evaluation research.  
4. Briefly describe ethical challenges in evaluation research.
5. Describe the basic steps that you need to employ when preparing data for analysis.

The assignment is worth a total of five (5) points, where each question is worth 1 point.  All work should be conducted individually, meaning you are not to team up with others to complete the questions.  If you share answers, or if you work with another student, you will receive a score of zero (0) on the assignment, you will fail the course, I may file academic charges against you, and you may be expelled from the program.  Successfully completing this assignment will help to prepare you for the second exam.  Answers will be graded on breadth, depth, and accuracy and partial credit will be awarded at my discretion.  Providing incorrect information or not answering the question to its full potential will, of course, adversely affect your grade.  Answer all of these questions on a separate page.  All answers must be type-written. 

Inevitably, you are likely wondering how long the assignment has to be.  There is not a minimum page/word requirement for this assignment.  Some students are focused writers and they are able to answer the questions with comparatively fewer words than other students who are a bit wordier. On average, I would expect that each question should be able to be answered in 2-3 paragraphs.  Clearly, if you write only a couple of sentences, your answer will not be sufficient.  But, writing three pages per answer does not mean that what you wrote is correct.  My advice is to write until you answer the question.  Then move on.  The key, however, is answering the question (do not go off on tangents).
