I chose the Southern colonies and Chesapeake colonies. I found that, as discussed in OpenStax (2019), both settlements were founded by European colonizers in the 17th and 18th centuries, but there were significant differences in their settlement patterns, origins, and religious influences.
In terms of settlement patterns, the Southern colonies, including present-day Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, were primarily settled by large, wealthy planters who established vast plantations to grow cash crops such as tobacco, rice, and indigo.
