Introduction

Both artifacts by Chinen (2018) and McCaslin (2015) have a focus on the same subject, Melodic drumming while the rhetoric analysis of each artifact differs.  The essay’s main focus is on the melodic drumming concept in jazz drumming. The essay will focus on two different audiences; the drummers and the academic audience. The YouTube artifact by Chinen (2018) shall be targeted at the general population who enjoy watching the YouTube videos while the write-up by McCaslin shall be based on the jazz drummers’ audience.  The essay shall describe the unique aspects of a genre as a driving force for the different artifacts as well as rhetoric analysis of the genre used in melodic drumming.

Thus, genre-making is an inductive process as it entails building a specific categorization on the specific aspects of the study.  Both artifacts used in the study rely on the genre convections to convey, the needed information to the target audience.
