Reflection: The Empathy Exams (Pg. 91-218).
My admiration for Leslie’s writing as per the previous reflection was on her ability to use life experience to drive the theme of empathy and understanding pain. This is considering she draws from other authors. In this last section of the book, I am more impressed by the notion that an essay could start anywhere, go anywhere and be anything. This element is clear in the last essay ‘Grand Unified Theory of Female Pain’ where she refers to Meghan Duam’s ‘Post-Wounded Women’ a book that curved its own genre of confessional writing.
